I both agree and disagree with this. I don’t think there is any shortage of web product design talent; the said designers need to realize, however, that they must be assertive with their visions and beliefs in order to do good work. This means saying ‘no’ a lot more than ‘yes’ to business people, and really respecting and engaging with developers.
The problem is not that there is a dearth of design talent, but a glut of ‘idea people’ who are great at spewing impressive sounding blather for investors. Of course this is the case though, it’s New York.
